On our final show of 2023 we present the second annual edition of “The Chilling Tales of Yuletide“, with a full-length adaptation of the 19th century short story, “The Screaming Skull”. After the death of his friends, Dr and Mrs Pratt, Captain Braddock takes up residence in their former home. Yet he soon becomes convinced that the skull he found in the upstairs bedroom screams every night, haunting him, and that it was the cause of Dr Pratt’s death. When investigators Miller and Shaughnessy (a believer and sceptic respectively) arrive to learn more about the situation on the night before Christmas Eve, Captain Braddock explains the haunting, as well as his theory that the skull belonged to Mrs Pratt and that her husband killed her. A half-tormented man himself, Captain Braddock is erratic in his explanations and retellings, and even Shaughnessy’s scepticism is slowly put to the test as the haunting of the skull begins to drag them into the tale of murder and betrayal and guilty consciences. Based on the story by Frances Marion Crawford and adapted by Lana O’Kell.
Jack and David return to an old classic with a new cast. James Newberry, Robbie Burgess and the group of The Audio Drama Show bring parts one and two of Ebenzer Scrooge’s reminder of festive cheer with “The Christmas Carol”
Jack takes David on a special secret trip on the TORDIS and visit their old friend, Madison. This time it’s a doozy! You’ve heard the story of the Macy’s Santa Claus claiming to be the real Saint Nick? Well, this time, Madison finds herself in the middle of it all when she takes a seasonal job in the famous department store. To make it worse, she’s picking up some extra dollars babysitting a coworker’s daughter, Susan, who doesn’t believe in Santa! The story has all the troupes of a good holiday movie: a mental ward, a legal battle, and the selfish cruelty of middle management. Can Madison save Christmas? It’s Audio Drama time to find out!
Jack and David get the herd in the barn for another season and take a sidestep with Sidequesting episodes 1-4! Sidequesting is a fantasy podcast about avoiding the main plot. It follows Rion, an adventurer who’s willing to help just about anyone out – as long as they’re not being asked to deal with the scary wizard everyone keeps talking about.
There’s nothing like bringing in the herd! Jack and David round up the Cowlets for winter and there’s nothing like bringing in a new show! This week it’s Starfall with the prologue, first, and second scenes of Act I. Starfall follows the adventures of the Carouvel Traveling Acting Troupe – a theatre troupe that uses magical items to create illusions for their shows as they move around the Falstenian Empire. The story begins as the troupe is joined by Leona, a young warrior with a mysterious past and even more mysterious powers. With their new guardian in tow, the troupe traverses the continent, encountering the dangers of humans, fae, and greater forces alike, all while still trying to put on a good show. It’s Audio Drama time!
With Jack and David finally reunited the Audioverse lies ahead! This week we begin with Benchmark from James O’Neill and Paul Freeman performed by Anton Lesser and music by Dan Harris. There’s No Place For Old Spies. Defection is a dangerous game. Oliver West relives an event he will regret for the rest of his life. Afterwards we have lighter fantasy fare with “The Inn Between” and episode one “The Goblin Head” where our heroes meet in a tavern. As you do from Kristen Brand and music from Society favourite Eli McIlveen!
