Verities and Balderdash

Is the name of a Harry Chapin album…
It also is the title of this post because I’m here to apologize without giving all of the above.
Sonic Society has been woefully neglected. Huey is weak and needing food. Jack and David are scattered among the podverse ether.

Not going to go into the details, but let’s just say the old Chinese curse about “Interesting Times” continues to be a factor.
Or well, it did.
I’m finding after a near 20 week absence, like the protagonist in Bioshock, I’ve pushed my head above water to gasp and see the flaming wreckage around me.

Now the challenge comes of trying to pull back from the brink and get caught up.

It’s going to take a while, but I’m committed. I love this medium. I love the Society, and I love every one of the fans out there who have walked this road with us for eight years.
Thanks so much for your concerned letters, messages, and the like. I’m sorry if some of them weren’t returned, life just gets a feller all bunkered down sometimes.

If you are:
-An old friend of the Society and want to see your new work put on, give me a shout.
-A new friend who would like to grace us with the opportunity to showcase your work, give me a whistle.
– Someone who wants to showcase one of your shows in our annual “Sonic Summerstock” where we feature old time radio scripts remounted by your cast, light up a flare!
– Someone who has no idea about any of the above but wants to give me a notification anyway. Let me know!

Thanks, and keep listening… please… 🙂
Jack

Presented by
The American Society For Science Fiction Audio
(ASFSFA)

The Mark Time Award is given each year to honor the Best Science Fiction Audio Production on the Planet. And the Ogle Award for Best Fantasy Audio Production of the Year.

Charles Ogle played the first Frankenstein’s creation in Edison’s silent 1910 film of the famous science fiction horror novel. Fantasy includes magical “high” fantasy, sword and sorcery, horror, modern urban fantasy, and other things that don’t fall under the criteria of Science Fiction. But, we’ll be the judges of that.

A Gold and a Silver Mark Time Award, and a Gold and a Silver Ogle Award, will be awarded at CONvergence,, June 30-July 3 of 2011.

Look Who’s Fanboy Ear Candy!

Shooter from Furious Fanboys wrote a great article on his picks for Top 5 Bits of SciFi Earcandy and guess who got two nods of the five?

Before we let the cat out of the bag lets take a moment and give a nod to the other three mentioned:

1. National Public Radio Star Wars Series– Who can deny one of the greatest audio drama adaptations of the classic George Lucas myth of all time.

2. Wormwood- A Serialized Mystery– This mystery series came out of nowhere just two years ago and took the audio community by storm. Not only did we have a ball playing them on the Sonic Society, but they swept the first season of Uni Awards an instant fan favourite.

3. We’re Alive- If you’re looking for one of the greatest reasons why serialized Audio Drama is one of the most powerful mediums, look no further than the exciting Zombie series “We’re Alive”. Another great find for the Sonic Socierty, this tale about survivors held up in an apartment building in LA is compelling action horror!

And now for the our connection:

Firefly Old Wounds and the Sonic Society were both mentioned as two other gems in the Earcandy list.

But don’t just take our word for it. Go read for yourself!

Audio that Doesn’t Vex

Check out the latest updates in Vexation Studios. Our good friend Rik O’Neill (you will remember him as the creator/producer of “Nova Star Hunters”!) has been working on updating Vexation’s look.. and look! The Sonic Society is featured up there!

Expect many more as Rik hopes to keep doing what we all love to do, spread the word. Audio Drama is back, and in a big way. And Vexation is going to show you more and more why you love it!

Twice Weekly on CKDU

clock_littleGot insomnia or a late shift?

Well, look no further than CKDU!

Starting right away expect your favourite show “The Sonic Society” rebroadcast at 3:30 in the A.M. on Saturday’s!

Huzzah! Now you know what to do when that Friday night double enchilada frozen dinner has you walking the walls!

How Do We Look?

canadian100club-5001Thanks to Sean McGaughey who through Twitter pointed us to an honour we didn’t know we received.

I guess its a big thing to hit the big 100 Episode mark, and while we did so a while back (we’re currently on 167 and I think that doesn’t include a couple of summer seasons), it’s still good to take stock and pause and consider that a lot of other podcasts don’t get up to he big three digits before they podfade.

So who knows, as we consider the future, maybe we’ll see the Sonic Society top 300… (200 is looming I’m sure).

And once again, its all thanks to you folks who are listening, and you folks who are donating your works. Congratulations all!
