The EVP Podcast Tune!

Many know by now that Tim Heffernan of The Dramapod fame has made a miraculous transformation of his site into a hub of potential RSS Feeds for the audio drama community. In his one site he’s created the opportunity for producers of audio stories to come together and host their series without cost.

When Tim asked us to participate through the beta process, we at EVP considered the obvious: “Why not have a podcast strictly of our own shows?” Hence the Electric Vicuna Production Podcast was born. Here we chronicle the complete package of EVP shows, and as of this week we just hit EPISODE 50!

Just in time for another great leap ahead for Drama Pod- the integration of iTunes. So, for all of you folk who use i-tunes, here’s the iTunes link for the EVP Podcast. Happy listening!

The Reviews are In!

Recently there’s been a lot of hay made about the  hashtag weekly on Twitter. We think it’s a fantastic way to get the word out for those who haven’t yet got on the Audio Drama Trolley (we’ve got multiple cars give us a try!) But for those of us who already listen to audio drama the rest of the week, how can we help out?

Perhaps you can make Sunday your review day. Most shows RSS Feeds can be found through i-tunes and lately we at the Sonic Society have made Sundays our day to attempt to systematically write i-tune reviews for all our favourite shows. Because that would take an inordinate amount of time, we’re keeping our list to three shows a week. How about you?

Try the three reviews a week Sunday challenge!

Honestly, it’s not easy to go write reviews in the first place, but here’s a couple of methods:

Lastly, if you’re a producer, you can sign up and check your reviews from all around the world monthly with a free account at MyPodcastReviews.com

So what are you waiting for? Go out there and get more folks on i-tunes checking out how hot radio drama is….

And hey, what better way to start than writing one for the Sonic Society? You hit EVERYONE then! Happy Reviewing!

Sonic Sith

ian-mcdiarmid-pic-n-cargill-1Everyone’s favourite villainous Emperor Palpatine actor, Ian McDiarmid is back to his roots in a new six part audio drama.

According to the Aberdeen Journal:

The Scottish born actor will star in, Akiha Den Den, the work of Peterhead-born producer and writer, Neil Cargill, and the series features a full cast, original music score, and has gained the backing of Aberdeen Performing Arts and Creative Scotland.

The episodes will be released fortnightly through a dedicated Akiha website, via iTunes; SoundCloud; Stitcher and TuneIn, with others to be added. So have a listen when it releases!

Download Required

downloadThere’s a strange new trend going on with some new audio drama companies, and it’s hurting their audience.

Loads of companies are putting out youtube videos and soundcloud audio. The problem with streaming audio is that it doesn’t allow for asynchronous listening. And this kind of distributed listening is by far the most effective distribution of audio drama.

In other words, please make it easy for your listeners to find you! Add a download link every time you download a show. If you’re planning to distribute your audio drama freely, the purpose is to give the widest, best possible opportunities to find new ears.

Most listeners either use direct downloads to mp3 players or subscribe to an RSS feed– usually through itunes. Many audio-philes listen while driving to or from work or when exercising or doing chores. To expect in this rush of a life, that most audio drama listeners will stream an audio drama from their computer is at best short-sighted, at worst intentionally hurting your marketshare of an audience.

We love audio drama in the Sonic Society. We respect and buy professional radio plays, but if you’re planning to make it free- by all means put it up for streaming, but please make it free to get for all!

Zune Enough

It’s funny how times change.

No matter how you slice it, the Apple computer has always had to play second banana to Microsoft’s Windows.

But there’s one thing Apple has certainly gotten a jump over the competition, and that’s the mp3 player and the means to distribute it. Never to be down to the mat for long, MS’s Zune is back to square off against the giant with one “I“.

And with thanks to the folks from Farpoint Media, we’re now squarely in both territories. In the itunes store, and now available through Zune- The Sonic Society.

Times change, but we’re just happy to bring you great Audio Drama in whatever form we arrive.

Audio Drama. Movies you have to hear to believe.
