The Audio Drama Directory

audiodramadirWow.  Amazing.  Simple to Use. Brilliant.

That’s what I have to say about this latest website by listener Jeremy. On Tuesday’s show, we’ll read Jeremy’s letter in full, but I’m going to put this out here ASAP.

This is what we’ve been looking for folks. Audiodramatalk.com has been fantastic in giving us a place to chat about Audio Drama, and you can find a pile of great links there.

This site has it all. Audio Dramas set up in genre, with the RSS feeds. EVERYTHING you need to get folks hooked on new and amazing shows.

And don’t forget the link: theaudiodramadirectory.com

The Push to Kill Canadian Copyright Law

Michael Geist brings us a tale about some backroom dealings that just might threaten current Canadian soveriegn copyright law.
What’s especially angering is that much of these “deals” are made in the dark without the light of public awareness.
Thanks Michael for shining some of the light on it.
Now we need to let people know!

Lighter- Now in Awesome Animation!

The amazing Drew Little took some time to create this phenomenal little animation short from “Lighter”, the Dead Line episode starring Ken MacAlpine, Alex MacDonald and Jack Ward. We love the style, and hope to see many more from this great animator! THANKS SO MUCH!!!

CKLU is in the Society!

CMIf you’re in the Sudbury area, there’s GREAT news! Now you can listen to The Sonic Society every Thursday afternoon at 1 PM (EST) on CKLU !

CKLU 96.7FM was born 24 years ago in a trailer alongside the Laurentian University parking Lot. CKLU now broadcasts live from the Parker Building (officially indoors, on campus and of legal age). Over 25,000 pairs of ears tune in to CKLU locally – our global listenership is possibly exponential. CKLU is the alternative to the usual.

And what better alternative than the Sonic Society

You’re Travelling Through Another Dimension…

280px-TheTwilightZoneLogo 50 years ago this week, Rod Serling a former paratrooper, boxer, and three time Emmy Award winning writer from the experimental live drama series Playhouse 90 had attempted to  escape controversy as a social/political critic in creating a “fantasy” series. His now famous interview with Mike Wallace in which he claims he’s no longer interested in deeper subjects was of course a classic boxer’s feint.

Serling redefined television. Along with other contemporary Teleplay writers like Reginald Rose and Gore Vidal they saw the small box as an opportunity to tell important stories- to entertain and to move people to the great plights of the modern age.

Serling began his career in radio but his five years in the Twilight Zone became one of the most influential in popular culture.

Fifty years later the shows are still relevant, the themes are still gripping, and Serling deserves all the credit. Thanks Rod.

How Do We Look?

canadian100club-5001Thanks to Sean McGaughey who through Twitter pointed us to an honour we didn’t know we received.

I guess its a big thing to hit the big 100 Episode mark, and while we did so a while back (we’re currently on 167 and I think that doesn’t include a couple of summer seasons), it’s still good to take stock and pause and consider that a lot of other podcasts don’t get up to he big three digits before they podfade.

So who knows, as we consider the future, maybe we’ll see the Sonic Society top 300… (200 is looming I’m sure).

And once again, its all thanks to you folks who are listening, and you folks who are donating your works. Congratulations all!

Justice Rides in California!

zorroproductionsincComing from Colonial Radio Theatre another adventure masterpiece- Zorro and the Pirate Raiders!

Colonial Radio consistently presents us lovers of audio drama with powerful stories. I remember when I was a child, my Grandparents had a Disney picture book of the story of Zorro. I would read it again and again when I visited, and hear the whip cracks and the whistle of the Fox’s sword as he tore his initial “Z” where ever he went.

Now, at long last, you can hear it too… with the adaptation by the award winning Jerry Robbins, you know this version of Zorro will get right into the action and be a story that will simply thunder off your earbuds.

But don’t take my word for it… have a listen to the promo yourself- here!

Podcast Directorate

defaultradioEvery once in a while I’m reminded that there are podcast directories out there and that they are introducing people to the wild world of Audio Drama.

While looking for another show’s feed I came across the Podcasting Directory link for our show.

Now this is very interesting, as I don’t remember ever being here. It’s possible I was, and set up the feed link, but more probable, one of our esteemed members did it for us. If so, a belated thank-you is due!
