Happy World Audio Drama Day!

All around stock-footage-vintage-looking-earth-with-radio-waves-loop-ablethe world, we celebrate our very first WORLD AUDIO DRAMA DAY!

Thanks so much to Sibby Wieland, David Jarvis, Sonia James from Sound Stages Radio who came up with the original idea and have worked so hard to get the word out. And special thanks to Pete Lutz from Narada Radio Company and Fiona Thraille from Cooperantem Radio for all their work and interest in promoting this celebration on Facebook and through the rest of social media.

How can you celebrate?
Here’s some things to consider:

1. Share a radio drama with your family tonight. Turn off all the cell phones, other technology and extraneous lights and enjoy a drama.

2. Share an audio play at dinner with a loved one.

3. Find your favourite audio theatre episode and listen while you drive to work.

4. Download some shows you’ve always wanted to listen to, but never had the chance for your workout session today.

5. Send around a link to your friends with the twitter tag #HappyWorldADD of your favourite shows from modern audio theatre

6. Talk to people about your favourite shows.

7. Clean the house or dishes old school with an audio drama playing.

8. Go for a nice long walk timed to an audio pulp production!

9. Bake some holiday food while listening to an audio show.

10. Burn some CD’s of some awesome audio drama and leave it randomly for people to find.

In whatever way you intend to celebrate today, have fun doing it and let us know!

Find the World Audio Drama Facebook Community and Twitter and we’ll see you- out in the world!

The Radical Art of Radio

Alana Valenalana-valentinetine’s play, “The Ravens” has gotten a decidedly sonic debut. The award winning BBC playwright had some lovely words to say about our favourite medium. “Radio drama creates an intimate connection with listeners.” In a News Australia article by Elissa Blake, the author writes, “In an era seemingly dominated by the Twitterverse and YouTube videos of cats in parachutes, writing plays for radio seems like an ancient art. But a Sydney playwright has injected new life into the medium.”

Someone please introduce, Miss Blake to the amazing variety we have in the Sonic Society and welcome her to the next Society Meeting!

Sound Language

We’re not strangers to teaching and radio drama. Jack has done many seminars with educators on including Audio Drama in the classroom. David has been very involved in theatre with young people for many years, and in this case, Ginny can appreciate the subject best.

In his “Language Mastery” blog, Matthew Pink makes a coherent argument for Radio Drama making waves in language learning. Using active and passive learning audio drama can indeed provide a lot of opportunity in learning new vocabulary and new languages- and as always its a took you take with you where ever you go!

Please Stand By!

In an effort to save our donors some money, and to put the bucks back into new equipment, The Sonic Society has been experimenting with some free server storage.

That experiment is now over. We’ve found that too many listeners saw our URL disappear for them when traffic started to ramp up from show releases and page visits. So we’re moving back to a modestly priced server as we continue to keep working on updates.

Our webmistress, the wonderfully talented Ginny has been doing a great job with the wordpress site and I think you can appreciate- as we do- the amazing functionality she’s brought to it for Season 10.

Ginny, David, and I, and all our guests are doing our very best to try to keep the interruptions at a minimum as we move the server over, but please be patient as we work to wrinkle out all the bugs and continue to improve your experience.

Thanks so much,

Jack!
