We hope to get things back up and running soon. Last night was not a good night for Mutual.
Since joining the Mutual Audio Drama two months ago, we’ve seen this network grow by leaps and bounds. If you have a favourite way to listen to Mutual, you can find it here. Some folks want to subscribe to one or more mini-casts for each day, and others prefer to have the entire Broadcast Feed. Whichever way you want your Audio Drama, you will love how you will always have content to listen to!

Someone wise once said, ‘If your life is worth living, it’s worth writing down.”
I think similarly if your audio has value to you, it’s worth preserving. That’s why when Gregg Taylor of Decoder Ring Theatre said in one of our interviews that he’s been uploading his shows to archive.org it made me consider that it’s probably time to do the same with the Sonic Society. It’s a large process to go back and even upload Season 12, but that’s been accomplished. We’ll go backwards and fill in the last couple years for sure.
There’s untold generations that should have a real understanding where and who started this amazing movement- the modern audio drama medium. And we’ve had front row seats in the past decade. Thank you everyone for your encouragement through the years!
As you wait for the next great Biff Straker episode, enjoy the incredibly fun and orgiinal PULP-0-MIZER. It slices and dices, and provides the very best of diesel punk!
As we get closer to the end of the year, reflections on the past, anxiety in the present, and dire predictions for the future provide all kinds of fear in the season. No matter what you do, our guarantee from David Ault and Jack Ward and everyone of us that listens as a Society member is that we’re here. We’ve come together in this past decade and longer, to share, to grow, and to expand our wonder at the world of audio storytelling.
Keep Calm. The story of the original poster is a testament to the power of words. And whether they are written on a piece of paper and hidden away for fifty years, or recorded in digital format and nearly lost for fifty years, words have meaning. Stories are perhaps the very stuff of the universe as certainly as they are the stuff of the human soul.
From all of us, to all of you, on this great spinning little blue marble against the ebon sea. We have one thing to say…
Keep Calm. And carry on listening to Audio Drama.
And Merry Christmas
It’s been a few years since our first release of the Audio Drama Rating System that we released in the incredible Audio Drama Directory. Many audio drama groups, companies, and individuals have been using the rating system to help identify what their content contains with thanks to Matt Leong’s artistry for the rating system badges!
Some people have asked why even have a rating’s system in the first place? Here was my answer back then:
Audio Drama on the Internet has become a renewed golden age of entertainment. So many new companies and individuals have created plays and stories and are distributing them through Internet Radio, Direct Downloads, Streaming and of course Podcasts. But as we become a larger and more robust community, it becomes more and more difficult to sort out which show is most appropriate for which audience. As an educator and a father, I know I would love to be able to point more families, teachers and students to a number of different audio play productions.
In the old days of radio, we had specific requirements banning certain language and adult situations. Today we have virtually no limitations in the breadth and scope of our tales! So, to help sort appropriate audiences, I have, with the consultation of several folks, developed a basic ratings system. It is my hope that many organizations and audio drama producers will sign on and agree to rate their shows so that many more people can listen and enjoy!
And it’s only become more important today with so many productions as we move through the Silver Age of the Modern Audio Drama movement and find fantastic new shows and new listeners.
In the tone of that collective effort I’m proud to provide folks with the BRAND NEW AUDIO DRAMA RATINGS VOICINGS by none other than Tanja Milojevic famous from Lightning Bolt Theatre of the Mind (and the upcoming Biff Straker) and John Bell from the hilarious and compelling Bell’s in the Batfry (and the aforementioned upcoming Biff too!)
Please feel free to download the new audio drama ratings and use on all your shows. Let’s help spread radio drama far and wide!
Excelsior!
If you’re a producer, writer, director, or actor of audio drama. It’s not unusual to see how much of your favourite medium takes up much of your time. For those of us who have many hats in the process, you can imagine thinking of new shows, writing, recording, and post-production takes up much of our waking lives.
But the things you love to do, never exhaust you like the drudgery of those tasks that are chores. You may get tired making radio plays, but you’ll be just as energized by the production. In the meantime, take some time this Easter weekend and spend time with your families, appreciate the coming Spring season, and rest because tomorrow there’s always more for you to listen from the world of modern audio theatre.
From all of us at the Sonic Society, to all of you, have a happy and safe holiday!

Electric Vicuña Productions has made an unscheduled rest stop. Because of a technical problem with our new service provider, we’re looking at making the move to virtual servers and all the bigger and better things that provides for 24/7, 365 day availability. Our home should be back up before Sunday. Please forgive the blackout.
