We’re back to Sandbox Radio Live to complete our “Spring Fling” with their live performance. How goes your work in NADSWRIM? Have you completed your writing quest this year? Only 2 weeks more to go!
Born to Teachers and Amateur Audio Enthusiasts in the small rural community of Belwood, Jack's first love was stories- writing, reading, telling, and singing. He developed his acting skills through High School, University, and through film and community theatre.
Jack writes the lion's share of Sonic Cinema Production's (previously Electric Vicuna) Audio Drama scripts and has his own writing site at www.jackjward.com. Jack also is the middle of book writing, screenplay production, and is the CEO of the Mutual Audio Network- where he and the best people in the world Listen & Imagine, Together!.
He's thrilled to co-host the Sonic Society with his wonderful, talented, friend David Ault as they enter their second decade in the medium!

The genius of Carl Stalling has long been accepted. Often considered to be one of the most innovative composers of the 20th century. Sometimes forgotten is the Costello to Stalling’s Abbott- that of Tregoworth Edmond Brown . “Treg” as he was called (although I’d be tempted to call him “Doc Brown” myself), was a brilliant composer himself, and an article from Neatorama called The Sound Effects Genius Behind the Looney Tunes and Merrie Melodies will give a look at the amazing man and his inventive work. As audio drama producers everywhere tinker with the right sound, imagine Treg recording live bits, placing sounds together from Foley in his cabinet or rummaging through old film clips. However you put it, the success of the Warner Brother Cartoons had as much to do with the sound of the shorts as it did with the visuals!
Dear Sonic Society Members,
You rock! David and I know you rock. For over a decade you’ve been the most patient, dedicated, and growing fans sharing the explosion of modern audio drama or radio drama, or pulp audio or sonic cinema whatever you’ve wanted to call it to people you love.
And you’ve done it again. We rarely look at our stats. We’re not interested in how much we’re growing, but rather that we keep bringing you the best that is out there. However, this past show, we noticed a massive spike. How much of a spike? After a pretty low January over all, we’ve had over a hundred thousand downloads from our podcast in in less than a week all surrounding Valentine’s Day.
So with apologies to a murdered saint, we love you too. Thanks so very much!
Jack and David
xxx ooo
Last month we shared that EVP we purchased a new R24 Zoom Recorder for in-house and live recording mixing. This week we have 2 new 415B Apex three pattern wide diaphragm studio condenser microphones and a brand new set of studio headphones to help complete the upgrade of the studio system.
We’re very excited to give the new mikes a whirl! What are you using today?

In the doldrums of winter, it’s time for a little Spring Fling or rather Spring Fever! Part one is here fromSandbox Radio Live. Where are you in NADSWRIM? Jack and David chat up the benefits and challenges of writing mystery fiction and it all begins here on the Sonic Society.
David Benedict from ARTC.org the Atlanta Radio Theatre Company sits down with Jack to speak about their more than three decades dedication to live and studio recorded audio theatre. Huzzah!
Apologies for Jack’s recording the new system still has a few kinks!
As we continue our NADSWRIM journey, we highly urge the Society members to look into Christopher Jarvis’ Elite: Escape Velocity.
Mr. Jarvis explains the science fiction epic:
Hey everybody. When I produced series one and two of Elite: Escape Velocity I was overwhelmed by your reception to the series. Not just as a faithful fan adaptation of a game world you all loved as much as I did, but to the characters, stories, performers and music that made it such a success. Nearly every week I get messages asking for Escape Velocity to come back. And I really want to be able to make it for you and continue the story we all started together.
That’s where you come in. However much you can pledge provides funds to get the series made. Whether you want to contribute $1 and be a part of things, or pledge $8 per episode and join in with private post-show discussions, I appreciate each and every donation that helps get this show on the air. It’s not going to be exclusive – Escape Velocity will still be released as a free podcast. But every supporter at $4 and above will have access to a download of a high bitrate version of the show. (The podcast is released as 128kbps mp3, while the private downloads are 320kbps).
Head on over to the Patreon Page for Elite: Escape Velocity and begin the adventure!
As we continue in the NADSWRIM challenge for the year of Audio Scripts, we at the Society would like to highlight some projects that are worth supporting. As we move into getting more folks into experiencing the wonder of the Audio World, consider The Keep Official Audio Drama from the novel by F. Paul Wilson.
From the Gofundme project:
What is The Keep?
In 1981 author F Paul Wilson released his novel The Keep. The Keep tells the story of a platoon of German soldiers during WWII occupying a small fortress in the Romanian mountains. Unknown to them, they have released an ancient evil from deep within its walls, the only few who may be able to solve the mystery and stop the slaughter of the soldiers are a crippled Jewish professor, his daughter and a mysterious stranger.
Now go out there and help get another great project off the ground!
So many great stars old and new keep coming back to Audio Drama. Now it’s the War Doctor himself, John Hurt, has a plea for many people out there. About radio drama, Mr. Hurt says:
“I consider it a very important part of my life. I think one of the major weapons of an actor is the voice. And I think [radio] is a forgotten art. And it’s just wonderful to be someone who is celebrating that particular art.”
Mr. Hurt was honoured in the BBC Awards for his outstanding contribution to radio. Catch the rest of his thoughts on our “forgotten art” in The Stage.
Editor’s Note: Anyone out there who knows Mr. Hurt, I’d be happy to interview him for Sonic Speaks!- Jack
Jack and David are out celebrating Jack’s birthday, but Jeffrey Adams and the Icebox Theater crew bring us episode one of Radio Icebox!
