Sonic Society #883- Theodora’s Christmas Show!

This week Jack and David enjoy Christmas with Jason Markiewitz as Markiewitz Audioworks proudly presents “Theodora’s Locket,” a heartfelt tale of hope, love, and family, where one girl’s selfless act brings forth an unexpected miracle.

Inspired by L.M. Montgomery’s “Christmas at Red Butte,” this full-cast, family-friendly, faith-based, audio drama combines incredible voice actors, immersive soundscapes, and original music to bring their fourth annual Christmas production, “Theodora’s Locket,” to their fans and listeners.  Written, directed and produced by 2026 Voice Arts Award Nominee Jason Markiewitz, this holiday drama stars Christiana Thomas as Theodora, alongside a cast of Jonathan Cooke, David Hilder, Brian Jeffords, Sarah Kramer, Jason Markiewitz, Sarah Newsom, William Chad Newsom, Mike Pelletier, Shelly Raffle, and Molly Thomas. The Cover art was designed by Jon Markiewitz and the original musical score was composed by Douglas Grunwald.

In my regular quest to find more audio cinema out in the ethers of the Internet I ran across an immaculately designed webpage from the folks at Dry Smoke and Whispers. Listening to a portion of their show “The ShadowMan” I knew I wanted to include these stories into the Society. Marc Rose gratiously sent me the first episode as a download an followed up with three gorgeous looking CD box sets. In the insert in episode one Marc writes “It all started with David Bowie. We wanted to write a character for Dry Smoke that would suit his character: his mystery, his ambiguity.” With that kind of inspiration we can certainly expect a unique story to be told. After we’ll continue our discussion about podcasting with Andy Doane from Spaceship Radio and of course end this meeting with the 5th installment of Biff Straker and Spaceways!

Sonic Summerstock Playhouse 16.7- Sam Spade Parody: Stan Slade Detective: The Burmese Penguin Caper

In our encore performance from Project Audion this season, Larry Groebe returns again to ask what do you do if you grew up listening the classic dramatic series on the radio, then found a career writing TV comedy for Bob Hope, and now, decades later, you still harbor fond feelings about those radio shows of your youth? Well, if you’re Robert L. Mills, you write shows like the one you’re about to hear.  It’s a takeoff of a certain famous detective whose name sounds awfully similar to OUR show’s hero, named Stan Slade. The original “Adventures of Sam Spade” was broadcast in the late 1940s and early ’50s. It starred Howard Duff as the detective created by Dashiell Hammett. It was a fun show that never took itself entirely seriously. Mr Mills has nudged his tribute a little further into the tongue-in-cheek — or should I say tongue in beak? -territory, reuniting the detective with his old adversaries from the Maltese Falcon movie, Sydney Greenstreet and Peter Lorre. Everyone in our cast gets to have some fun with this adventure of Stan Slade, Detective, entitled “The Burmese Penguin Caper”.
