The Light of September

the_light_of_september_0What chance do Sylvester McCoy, Tamsin Greig, and Tuppence Middleton have in being in an audio drama together? Well, if its from the team that brought you The Minister of Chance, all stars appear to be aligned for The Light of September.

This audio drama sci-fi series has been inspired by the teachings of Albert Einstein says this DenofGeek article and along with the above three are many other recognisble stars will be relesed as a free bi-weekly podcast.

What exactly IS The Light of September about? So glad you asked!
“Einstein said that nothing can travel faster than the speed of light. In the near future, a probe does just that. On Earth, the crew of the oceanographic research vessel Venus begin to experience the results: a passing brigantine spews murder from its hold; strange creatures roam the seas, and the crew are shocked to learn that their chief scientist is dead: none more so than the chief scientist himself. Only a passing American ship can help, though it may not be from America…”

Twilight Zone Appears Over England

twzoneThe BBC has made arrangements to carry the famous Twilight Zone Radio Dramas from producer Carl Amari. For those of us familiar, Stacy Keach’s rich voice fills the role of narrator once held by the iconic Rod Serling for the original television series. In an io9 article, we discover that ten episodes will be released featuring the voice work of such well known actors as  Jane Seymour, Jim Caviezel, Michael York, Malcolm McDowel and many others.

Curiously, the first episode An Occurrence at Owl Creek Bridge was originally a silent French short film that Rod purchased the rights for and modified for the Twilight Zone. So fascinating to see how the voiceless is given voice in a new generation. But that’s the power of the Twilight Zone, and the power of radio drama. Look for the episodes on BBC 4 coming soon!

A Valentine’s Present from You!

valentine-heart1Dear Sonic Society Members,

You rock! David and I know you rock. For over a decade you’ve been the most patient, dedicated, and growing fans sharing the explosion of modern audio drama or radio drama, or pulp audio or sonic cinema whatever you’ve wanted to call it to people you love.

And you’ve done it again. We rarely look at our stats. We’re not interested in how much we’re growing, but rather that we keep bringing you the best that is out there. However, this past show, we noticed a massive spike. How much of a spike? After a pretty low January over all, we’ve had over a hundred thousand downloads from our podcast in in less than a week all surrounding Valentine’s Day.

So with apologies to a murdered saint, we love you too. Thanks so very much!

Jack and David

Keep At It!

thekeepAs we continue in the NADSWRIM challenge for the year of Audio Scripts, we at the Society would like to highlight some projects that are worth supporting. As we move into getting more folks into experiencing the wonder of the Audio World, consider The Keep Official Audio Drama from the novel by F. Paul Wilson.

From the Gofundme project:

What is The Keep?
In 1981 author F Paul Wilson released his novel The Keep. The Keep tells the story of a platoon of German soldiers during WWII occupying a small fortress in the Romanian mountains. Unknown to them, they have released an ancient evil from deep within its walls, the only few who may be able to solve the mystery and stop the slaughter of the soldiers are a crippled Jewish professor, his daughter and a mysterious stranger.

Now go out there and help get another great project off the ground!

Your show, The Sonic Society,  met with the Scottish sign of approval for one of the best compilations, and we’re grateful to Matt for his recommendation.

For other recommendations of awesome audio (most of which you can hear on the Society of course) check out his article.
