Zune Enough

It’s funny how times change.

No matter how you slice it, the Apple computer has always had to play second banana to Microsoft’s Windows.

But there’s one thing Apple has certainly gotten a jump over the competition, and that’s the mp3 player and the means to distribute it. Never to be down to the mat for long, MS’s Zune is back to square off against the giant with one “I“.

And with thanks to the folks from Farpoint Media, we’re now squarely in both territories. In the itunes store, and now available through Zune- The Sonic Society.

Times change, but we’re just happy to bring you great Audio Drama in whatever form we arrive.

Audio Drama. Movies you have to hear to believe.

Want to Live Forever?

With thanks to Bill Hollweg from Broken Sea for passing this out to us!

Finding great help to make good audio drama is always a special treasure, and this is no exception. Thanks so much for the folks that put this fun series together. Check it out!

F.A.M.E.
Since the launch of Star Wars Fanworks in 2003, we have been featuring not just fan audio productions, but articles on how it’s done. With tutorials, features, casting calls, and other methods, we have hoped to act as a parton of the fan audio art form, particularly among Star Wars fans.
From August 2005 through January 2007, Star Wars Fanworks offered fan audio listeners the F.A.M.E. podcast series, better known as Fan Audio Made Easy. In this series of short tutorials and hints, longtime fan audio community members like Rayzur’s Edge Audio’s Nathan P. Butler and Outcast Multimedia’s Rich Sigfrit share the insights they’ve gleaned in their years of fan audio experience with the genre’s newcomers, in the hope that the field will continue to grow in the years to come.

Hi Ho! Hi Ho! It’s to the Sonic Workshop I go!

In life, a little rain must fall, and that rain always irrigates good discussions and ideas.

Currently there’s a lot of discussion about a review process for Audio Drama- a peer review.  Chris Moody has begun one at Audio Cinema Review (Thanks for using Audio Cinema as a term Chris, I still like it!)

One of the problems with the idea is who should review Audio Series? There’s lots of folks out there who’ve been in the game a long time, and I think, personally, a round table of sorts would work best.

Now a couple years back when I first spoke about Sonic Gold I had also considered Sonic Workshop, a place where through the permission of the producers we could look at a show or a series with a panel of other Audio Drama enthusiasts to critically speak about the benefits and flaws of the show.

And I sat and waited. No one offered their show for dissection. That’s understandable. But just as understandable is our need to go through it. So the call is out again. If you’re a writer/producer and want your show reviewed and looked at. Send me the show and I’ll find the panel to do it, and add Sonic Workshop on as often as once a month to the feed if there’s interest. We’d look at writing, acting, and production pieces. It would be a blast.

The call is still out there… will anyone answer it?

How Do We Look?

canadian100club-5001Thanks to Sean McGaughey who through Twitter pointed us to an honour we didn’t know we received.

I guess its a big thing to hit the big 100 Episode mark, and while we did so a while back (we’re currently on 167 and I think that doesn’t include a couple of summer seasons), it’s still good to take stock and pause and consider that a lot of other podcasts don’t get up to he big three digits before they podfade.

So who knows, as we consider the future, maybe we’ll see the Sonic Society top 300… (200 is looming I’m sure).

And once again, its all thanks to you folks who are listening, and you folks who are donating your works. Congratulations all!

Podcast Directorate

defaultradioEvery once in a while I’m reminded that there are podcast directories out there and that they are introducing people to the wild world of Audio Drama.

While looking for another show’s feed I came across the Podcasting Directory link for our show.

Now this is very interesting, as I don’t remember ever being here. It’s possible I was, and set up the feed link, but more probable, one of our esteemed members did it for us. If so, a belated thank-you is due!

Old Time Radio Gets a Facelift!

Set your podcast feeds for a great new look at old treasures!

Bill Hollweg from Broken Sea Audio has done it again! It wasn’t long ago, when the superstar producer was looking at taking some of his favourite Old Time Radio shows and “cleaning up” the sound quality to return and improve the audio experience for a new generation to enjoy.

He had so much fun, and received such positive responses from those who knew about this little project that he went ahead and began his own podcasting series on it!

The OTR Swag Cast got off to a great start with music by the multi-talented Stevie K. Farnaby presenting Lux Radio Theatre’s Secret of the Incas starring Charlton Heston! A great OTR for those who have a love for pulp movies like Indiana Jones!

As the Madness Turns…

Unspeakable and InhumanAs reported by Derek Fetters in Audiodramatalk.com,  Canada’s premier horror magazine, Rue Morgue, gives mention to audio drama’s only Lovecraftian soap-opera, The Unspeakable and the Inhuman in their most recent issue #86 on page 10.

Featured in a single paragraph in the “Roadkill from the Info Highway” section, Rue Morgue mentions  the U&I Myspace page and as well as providing a positive review of the show!

So exactly what is “The Unspeakable and the Inhuman”

From the Myspace page is written:

“WHAT THIS IS
A serial audio-drama, soap opera inspired by the works of H. P. Lovecraft
Actually this is just the extended pilot, created initially to get feedback from people at the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival in Portland, OR, which happend Oct 6-8, ’06. We’ve decided to put the episode up here, and a few scenes which didn’t make onto the original disc, to help promote it. When we go into full production you may hear different actors, different effects, and cleaner sound.

HOW THIS HAPPENED
My friend Sam had an idea for a series of short films – a soap opera inspired by H. P. Lovecraft. At that time I had begun to develop a company that would produce serial audio drama for podcast.

We decided to team up, turning the soap into an audio serial. We were working on the series bible when we realized the H.P. Lovecraft Film Festival was a month away. With such a perfect test audience soon to be assembled in Portland, OR we scrambled to create what became an extended pilot of our series – which we named The Unspeakable and the Inhuman, and that’s what you’re listening to here.” “

That’s more than good enough for us. Check out the horror at neohoodoostudio.com !

And then there’s Maud…

Broken Sea Audio’s first series of the fantasy light-faired comedy “Maudelayne” wraps up.

After 12 episodes and a whole lot of fun, series one comes to a close with the beginning of a two-parter which can only bring smiles to the faces of their fans knowing that a “Series 2” will not be too far behind?

Maudelayne is a show about several academes who are astonished to find dragons, ancient gods, and other creatures of myth appearing at Maudelayne College in Oxbridge.

With so many dark adventures in audio drama, Maudelayne, written and directed by Alexa Chipman with art and production  by Stevie K. Farnaby is one of those great audio dramas you can just sit back and smile at the magic, the mischief, and the mirth!

Have a listen to Maudelayn Series 1 while its hot off the presses!
