The Towns of Angus and Alora

When writing the Age of Adventure series, I leaned heavily upon my memories of my home towns, “Fergus” and “Elora” that was the source for Willard’s home towns of “Angus” and “Alora”.

Here’s what Wikipedia has to say about Fergus

Here’s Wikipedia’s description of “The Grand” river, inspiration for “The Divine” river.

Willard’s public school “James Black Elementary” was a mix of my public school James McQueen and my sister’s school John Black PS.

The Swimming Pool Will sneaks around that’s just situated on the banks of “The Divine” is based on the old swimming pool in Fergus. Unfortunately its been closed down. It needs a transfusion of funds, if anyone is a multi-millionaire looking at this.

Some other pictures of the town.

The Grand

Another of the old Pool with the bridge where I lost my bathing suit. Since watching it fall, I’ve always had a desire to jump off of heights. Scary!

This is a small picture of my High School before it got knocked down. Centre Wellington District High School (always called CWDHS)

Elora Quarry. Lots of movies filmed here. Inspiration for the caves that Willard takes first Kyann and then Hellen. And another shot here.

Downtown Elora from the Grand perspective.

One of my jobs I kept in university was working security nights at this Inn. They have a waterfall, and generate their own power and sell it back to the town for a profit!

Can you see Kyann and Willard playing in the Elora Gorge? Maybe here?

Yes, I had a stupidly idyllic childhood.

Thanks so much for walking with me down memory lane, and seeing a little of where Willard came from!

Promos

I’ve included all three promos here. All lovingly narrated by the amazingly talented, and my friend, Mr. Zombie Astronaut himself  W. Ralph Walters from The Frequency of Fear.

I’d like to wax a little more fan-boy praise of Mr. Walters. Not only does he have a golden voice, not only does he write, produce, and act in his Frequency Lite shows.  He also is a phenomenal artist.

I’m the grateful recipient of some of his  posters, and they are truly works of art. If you have any money and any desire to produce something, PLEASE do yourself a favour and seek out his genius.

Please enjoy these old promos of the show!

Error!

Jack and Huey give a brief peak into the workings at Sonic Society as they try to explain how things are “back to normal” at the studio.

CBC and Audio Drama Under Siege

I grew up with the CBC. I can honestly say that much of my love of Audio Drama was ignited by this network. CBC Radio was on first thing in the morning, and I remember listening to shows on weekends, and in the evening. CBC kept me informed and grew my understanding of Canada, the United States, and the World. CBC is family to me. Nothing more and nothing less.

And because it is family, CBC has kept me comforted during long lonely drives, rides across the country where everything was unfamiliar- CBC was home.

So I’m asking, from me, Jack Ward, that you support this initiative. CBC STILL keeps me, many Canadians here and abroad, and citizens from all around the world informed, entertained, and connected- ESPECIALLY now through their podcasts. As a public broadcaster its been able through the generations to create some of the best new audio drama in the world, train some of the most exciting new talent, and annoy politicians and private businesses because their business has been reporting the truth.

Help protect one of these last bastions of the public, please?

A Little Feed Housekeeping

Thanks to new Listener Lisa, I got a gentle reminder that since Libsyn had moved us to their new server, we had some of our earliest Season 1 episodes in a mixed up state.

So going through the feed, I discovered some duplicates files as well as reorganize the order of the shows.

Now, hopefully Listener Lisa will let me know if any of the podcast files are a little wonky… and hopefully she’ll enjoy the early days of the Sonic Society!
