Please Stand By!

In an effort to save our donors some money, and to put the bucks back into new equipment, The Sonic Society has been experimenting with some free server storage.

That experiment is now over. We’ve found that too many listeners saw our URL disappear for them when traffic started to ramp up from show releases and page visits. So we’re moving back to a modestly priced server as we continue to keep working on updates.

Our webmistress, the wonderfully talented Ginny has been doing a great job with the wordpress site and I think you can appreciate- as we do- the amazing functionality she’s brought to it for Season 10.

Ginny, David, and I, and all our guests are doing our very best to try to keep the interruptions at a minimum as we move the server over, but please be patient as we work to wrinkle out all the bugs and continue to improve your experience.

Thanks so much,

Jack!

Sonic Influencer!

So after some speculation it’s finally come to pass! YOUR Sonic Society is listed in the new i-tunes Modern Radio Drama page as an influencer of Audio Drama. You’ll recognize a pile of other grand folks in the genre as well. Hooray!

Congratulations to all of YOU out there. Without our Society Members- the listeners, we never would have made it. Ten years later but we finally have our own page on itunes. Wonderful! Go see for yourself at the itunes link. itunes

Some Housekeeping Notes

unnamed2Hello Sonic Society members.. Jack here…
I just wanted to send a little note out over the RSS Feeds. Some folks have noticed that last week’s Sonic Society hasn’t hit the podverse yet, and I apologize. I’ve been voiceless and sick with a lousy cold (is there a great cold?) for the last week and a half. I actually had one before and as soon as I got rid of it, I picked up another.
At any rate, I’m happy to report, that I have my voice back and you can expect the Tuesday show up on the feed soon.
As well as today’s Sonic Speaks, and of course last Friday’s Sonic Echo.
David and I hope that you’re enjoying the packed feed this tenth season of the Sonic Society. We’re getting all kinds of positive responses from people, and we’re just happy to share our love of Audio Drama with you and all the people who love making this stuff too.

They’re awesome aren’t they? If you haven’t hugged A radio drama producer or voice actor today, go out and find one.

A couple of other quick announcements- we’re now on Stitcher! And if you go on to the Sonic Society webpage at sonicsociety.org (of course) you’ll see a little link to your Sonic Society show on Stitcher.
This is real important. Please, please please… right now… before you forget (because I always forget when podcasts ask me this) go to that link. Go on to the Sonic Society on Stitcher and on the bottom of the page write a review.
We normally don’t ask this, but we need a few reviews on Stitcher to push the Sonic Society out on their main page. This is one of our chances to get the Sonic Society known in other places than through the podcast.
So PLEASE do that right now… I’ll wait… until you get there….
……
still waiting…..
Yes, there’s the page…. right… bottom of the page…. right there…
Yes, fill out that review….
Please be honest… and generous… or generously honest… 🙂

Okay… speaking of getting the word out there… Thanks to our webmistress Ginny, we’ve been updating the Sonic Society webpage and moved it to another server. Some folks said they couldn’t see the webpage because the URL hadn’t transferred over to the new server where they are. If you’re having that problem and the sonic society is coming back broken, please let us know at sonicsociety AT gmail DOT com

Other news… other news… Yes! We have Sonic Society Youtube channel working. If you know people that have trouble using an RSS Feed or itunes Podcasting, but know how to use Youtube… then please get them to subscribe. I’ve been posting a ton of shows from our back catalogue and we’re already well into the second season… maybe the third season on Youtube.
Thanks again to Ginny who has been steadfastly making these into playable movies (even if they don’t have any visuals) and I go ahead and put the feed information into the description and away we go!

So I think that’s it.. subscribe to the Youtube, reviews on Stitcher…. and I hope you really enjoy the next couple of months. Sonic Echo has Orson Month this October, and we have a bunch of really fun interviews with the makers and shakers of Audio Drama today in Sonic Speaks- and of course brand new, companies and favourite companies with new shows in our regular Tuesday night shows on the Sonic Society all wrapped around the adventures of David, our friends and myself in the TORTIS.

Special thanks to M. Sierio Garcia who has returned again as our Promo Girl and to all the people who’ve guest starred and will in our upcoming shows. Especially John Bell who can help out on a dime.

Lastly, EVP has some great stuff in the works. Michael Stokes is remastering Gate- AT LAST! You’ll get Gate mastered the way the show deserves… and I just finished recording a special new Wavefront episode for our 400th release of the regular season of the Sonic Society for the end of October.

As you can tell, lots buzzing in the Sonic Society this year. No wonder I’ve been ill!
Hope you are in better health and taking care of each other.
We’ll see you later- in the society…
Goodnight.

P.G. Holyfield Could Use Your Smile- Rise and Shine

1965850_1408294617.4618And with that, listeners were transformed by the tale that P.G. Holyfield told.
I began audio drama in the first wave of podcasting back over a decade now, and even though audio books and audio drama swim in different circles we do cross back and forth occasionally.

I never got much chance to speak to P.G., but I too was wrapped up in his novel “Murder at Avedon Hill” and was excited at the opportunity for more. P.G. and I have a lot in common, a love of role playing games, fantasy, and of course Game of Thrones. P.G. is a lover of story, a weaver of tales and a podcaster of many podcasts well “Beyond the Wall” and “Tales of the Children” are the ones I’ve listened to. He’s a favourite guest at both Balticon and Dragoncon and has an endless list of friends he’s gathered in the seven years since he first podcast his novel.

I mean P.G. Holyfield is such a presence in the podcasting culture, that I guess I took it for granted that I’d be able to interview him at any time.
so, it was with some shock that I read a blog announcement from Chooch Schubert and Vivian Muse about the recent challenges to P.G.’s health.

And after I started looking at pictures after pictures of Patrick with his friends that people posted on his Facebook and through twitter, and I listened to the love that Nutty spoke about, the fact that no one, NO ONE could say anything bad about this man… it got me thinking…

Maybe, it’s time for all of us to rise and shine a little bit more. You know the phrase “rise and shine”? My parents woke me up as a kid every morning, and I wake up my boys with that little piece of advice- Rise and Shine.

P.G. Holyfield teaches me, even now, a little bit about being a better person. Not just rising to the challenges and doing the things I need to do, but maybe “shining” just a little brighter… smiling a little more, and being just that much more communicative about the people around me.

I lost my best friend, eighteen years ago, and since then, I don’t take my friends for granted. I’m very careful to tell the listeners of the Sonic Society know how much they mean to me at the end of each season. I try not to get too sappy through out the year, but maybe the secret of P.G.’s success as a man- beyond his wildly creative talent- is that he makes people around him feel valued all the time.
Not just once in a while, and without having to say a whole lot.

I’m not a very social person normally. I have trouble feeling comfortable around groups of people I don’t know- hence my presence in Conventions have always been limited. I’m more comfortable on stage and in panels than chatting afterwards.

Maybe it’s time for me try harder. Maybe its time to rise a little to complete those creative endevours. Maybe its time to shine a little more with the people around me.

If you want to help out P.G., and rise and shine a little more yourself, go to the Go Fund Me P.G. Holyfield Cancer Support page, put your memories of Patrick in an audio or a video… Talk to friends. Whatever you do…

Time to shake yourself out of bed, and rise and shine…

Happy Canada Day!

Whoever you are, where ever you live, from all of us here at the Society a very happy Canada Day tomorrow! May you have a relaxing and joyful time with friends and family, and hear the siren’s call of audio drama playing late in the evening over the waters.ssocietyCan
