The Magic of Audio

We often forget the absolute magic of the audio story. If we go back to our childhood, we can remember being read to- even if we couldn’t see the page. Our imagination fills in the worlds that are drummed up through sound in a way that the visual medium could never accomplish. If you don’t believe me, try this experiment some time. Turn on a television show on TV and make sure you can’t see the picture. You’ll be able to follow along in most cases to the story. Then try the reverse. Watch the show without sound, and you may get the broad strokes, but more likely you’ll miss out on what is actually happening.

Still don’t believe me? Ask David Tennant and Kenneth Branagh

I Hate Snakes but Love Audio Drama

The IndyCast folks have released a fan audio drama of the incredible Indiana Jones. MovieWeb.com gives some great details:

Produced by an international collective of artists across seven cities and over five years in the making, the first-ever feature-length Indiana Jones radio adventure will air on The IndyCast starting April 5th 2019. Released as a special episode, this fan-made full-cast audio drama is the marquee event in a diverse multimedia release including a screenplay, soundtrack, illustrations and more.

What started as a simple idea for a movie premise transformed into a global collaboration committed to giving Indiana Jones fans a brand new adventure in their favorite series:

In the immediate aftermath of the second World War, Indiana Jones returns home from his time with the OSS, now weary of his daredevil past. But just when he contemplates hanging up his hat for good, an old nemesis re-emerges with a plot to not only destroy the world’s newly established peace, but also erase the last thirty years of history. In order to stop him, Indy must journey into the heart of the legendary Devil’s Triangle where he will decide to either wipe out the sins of the world, along with his own mistakes, or renew his journey and remember the adventure!

There’s always more opportunities when you enter the Audio world. How cool would it be if the movie studios released audio dramas between the waits between movies?!

Oral Tales and Audio Drama

Forbes knew it was coming two years ago.

In an article written by Chris Giliberti, from Gimlet Media entitled 6 Reasons Why Podcasting is the Future of Storytelling, Giliberti identifies why podcasting- and oral storytelling (we would argue audio drama) is key and king.

In a nutshell the business-side is starting to catch up with the creative folks:

  • Investment
  • Content
  • Talent
  • Distribution
  • Connected
  • VR

The truth is we’re genetically predisposed towards stories- good stories. As a native tradition suggests: Human beings have four great appetites. The first is food and a human can go weeks without eating. The second is water and a human can go days without drinking. The third is air and a human can go minutes without breathing, and the last is imagination and if a human’s imagination disappears for a moment they seek to exist and all things around them.

Story is simply the building block of life. Nothing exists without it. And the best way through is listening to stories. Listen to a story today!
