Looking for a Few Good Nova Cadets!

CapFuture1stPulp

He may not be the picture here, but Biff Straker of Nova Command is still looking for a few good men and women- actors that is!

As we prepare for the release of Season Zero, of Spaceways for Sonic Society Season 11, EVP is looking for some great, energetic and interesting character voices.

The tone of the revamped Spaceways will be Buck Rogers adventure but Sky Captain and the World of Tomorrow seriousness. The storylines may be fantastic and silly at times, don’t let your characters be. We’re looking for believable auditions so that Biff can be appreciated for all ages!

Here’s some of the roles you can give a try.

1. Rat Man (M)Drag them both back to the Circle… But Captain Bara (BEAR-ra) ! How did you guess that the blaster was not set to kill? … Fool! You heard her. She was ready to surrender to the Council. Do you think she would have dared to kill us knowing how much trouble she’s in already? Do you?!

2. Viking Amazon Centaur Pirate (F): The slave male you asked for, War Chief… Yes, War Chief (STAMPS A SALUTE)    … No. I slew her. It’s amazing how easily that can be done and so quickly, she even now breathes her last.

3. Oar Captain on Flying Slave Ship (M): You! Sapiate! (SAY-pee-it) The War Chief will see you above decks. Be quick about it. YOU! SAPIATE! I won’t tell you again! Get above decks!

DETAILS:  a. Record on an excellent microphone with great isolated sound quality.
b. Provide your audition on any or all of the above lines. Include more voices or lines of your own.
c. Send audition mp3’s (256K is fine for the audition) to sonicsocietyATgmailDOTcom.
d. Include your full name, best way to get in contact with you and your availability.
Please note that actors who are excellent usually have the following attributes: great voice flexibility and style, great recording capability, flexible schedules for recording and retakes, and fun to work with.

How Well Can You Hear Quality?

nprNPR asks the question “Can you hear quality audio?” with this interesting series of music segments that included compressed and uncompressed elements of songs, Jacob Ganz challenges you to pick the WAV. Go ahead, and take the test! We’re not afraid to say that we failed, but then again, none of these clips are audio drama!

The Audio Drama Rating System Update!

ADD-GIt’s been a few years since our first release of the Audio Drama Rating System that we released in the incredible Audio Drama Directory. Many audio drama groups, companies, and individuals have been using the rating system to help identify what their content contains with thanks to Matt Leong’s artistry for the rating system badges!

Some people have asked why even have a rating’s system in the first place? Here was my answer back then:

Audio Drama on the Internet has become a renewed golden age of entertainment. So many new companies and individuals have created plays and stories and are distributing them through Internet Radio, Direct Downloads, Streaming and of course Podcasts. But as we become a larger and more robust community, it becomes more and more difficult to sort out which show is most appropriate for which audience. As an educator and a father, I know I would love to be able to point more families, teachers and students to a number of different audio play productions.

In the old days of radio, we had specific requirements banning certain language and adult situations. Today we have virtually no limitations in the breadth and scope of our tales! So, to help sort appropriate audiences, I have, with the consultation of several folks, developed a basic ratings system. It is my hope that many organizations and audio drama producers will sign on and agree to rate their shows so that many more people can listen and enjoy!

And it’s only become more important today with so many productions as we move through the Silver Age of the Modern Audio Drama movement and find fantastic new shows and new listeners.

In the tone of that collective effort I’m proud to provide folks with the BRAND NEW AUDIO DRAMA RATINGS VOICINGS by none other than Tanja Milojevic famous from Lightning Bolt Theatre of the Mind (and the upcoming Biff Straker) and John Bell from the hilarious and compelling Bell’s in the Batfry (and the aforementioned upcoming Biff too!)

Please feel free to download the new audio drama ratings and use on all your shows. Let’s help spread radio drama far and wide!

Excelsior!
