On Account of the Resident
Snow on the ground, NANOWRIMO over, I wrestle back the writing of the show notes from Shannon. All is once again well in the world!
I’m Jack Ward with Shannon Hilchie for the Sonic Society, the world’s best little showcase of Audio Theatre- and I just wanted to thank our Shannon for helping out by writing the show notes.
With my Clark Kent job and doing all the writing and editing of Sonic Gold, I was pretty swamped… although… You did edit the last two audio shorts of Sonic Gold of ours together, didn’t you?
Maybe we should put a little montage of a couple of your favourite audio intros with Shannon and I into Sonic Society, so those who are not subscribed to Sonic Gold can listen and maybe get interested?
Which comes to the next item. CHRISTMAS.
You’re sitting by the fire. Yule log is churning with glowing orangey goodness. (I’m there!)
You’ve got a mug of hot chocolate, marshmallows melted to the perfect ivory slurry (Mmm!)
Christmas tree is brimming with lights, ornaments, and tinsel. (Perfect!)
But you’re missing something. (I am?!)
Yes you are. (What is it?! What is it?!)
It’s actually two things. There’s no presents under the tree! (Oh no! I forgot!)
You forgot. Time has raced upon you. For you are American and have Thanksgiving in November of all times! (Oh woe is me! If only I was a Canadian I could have had Thanksgiving in October and have been better prepared!)
But you could not. And there’s something else! (No! Not something else!)
Yes… All you have to play is Christmas Songs! (NOOOOOO! They’ve been going forever!)
That’s right! Christmas Songs day in and day out. The Musak of the holidays that have been thrust in every department store, every radio station since Hallowe’en made its tilt from night to November 1st. (Is there no hope?!)
Funny you should ask that. Because there is! (What is it?!?!)
Sonic Gold! (Dead Pan: Sonic Gold? Really?)
Really! Just think of it. The perfect holiday gift. What could be better than sending a subscription to a loved one. A parent who’s all the way on the other side of the world, or just around the corner. You can send them a little letter with a magnificent bow saying, “Merry Christmas Mom… Dad… Sis… Aunty Eleanor” (Aunt Eleanor?)
Shh! I miss her! And say, “Here’s the one truly wonderful gift. The gift of story! On a cold winter night, when you don’t want to go anywhere. When you’re in your car, waiting for it to warm, or stuck in the traffic. Or just going out to check the Christmas decorations of the neighbours. Stick in your ipod and listen to this rare treat. Once these shows go their year’s length, they are gone. You won’t ever get them all together again with this kind of deal.
Sonic Gold! The Christmas gift that keeps on giving. Email us today now!
Okay… With our Christmas plea out there. We’re hoping to have an even 100 listeners. We need just 20 more subscribers to do that before the end of the year. Please help us. It’s just 25 bucks for hundreds of dollars worth of productions. That’s really a pittance. (You just love the word pittance)
I do indeed. I do indeed. Merry Christmas All!
And speaking of a Merry Christmas and Sonic Gold, expect a double sized Sonic Gold episode of holiday cheer out next week with a certain flint-hearted old Scrooge and much more!
But tonight.. here on the Sonic Society we’re pleased to present Paul Marlowe’s instant classic The Resident Member from Paul Marlowe dot com. I’m not sure of his pedigree, but I’m going to say right now that Mr. Marlowe is a decendent of that master playwright, Christopher Marlowe of Doctor Faustus fame. This particular show has such a talented voice cast, and a great story that has one of those feels of something of a classic.. but lets not waste a moment more shall we?
Let’s pull out our favourite afghan to cover our legs… poke the fire some more, open that bag of popcorn we popped earlier and have a listen to “The Resident Member”. Here… on the Sonic Society…
2.Paul Marlowe’s- “The Resident Member”
