2. Introduction with Jack and Shannon

Wow. How’s that for a new theme? Here we are at the beginning of a new season, season 6 of the Sonic Society and I’m really excited. I can’t wait for all the great new audio drama this year. Because if I haven’t said it enough before, I’m the biggest fan of the works that people send us. I’m the first one to hear them often times, and its such a treat to give them a listen, and before I gush any more I’d like to introduce your hosts for the Sonic Society- I’m Jack Ward and I’m Shannon Hilchie.

We’ve been your Audio Bush Pilots overlooking the Sonic wilderness for well over half a decade now and we’re thrilled to bring you each week the very best in audio drama.

Lots to talk about, and a little time to do it in. So let’s begin with our last Zug call ever. From Mari.. from Michigan.

3. Zug Beud Mailbag

[Zug Call and Response]

Yes, you heard us right. That’s the last Zug call. After five years of loyal service, it was time to let Zug enjoy his golden years out in the Pony Patch in the Sonic Summer Grotto and his first born steps up to the plate.

If you’ve just subscribed and know absolutely nothing of what I’ve just said- go back and listen to the beginning of the Society! In the meantime, don’t worry. What I’m saying is we have a new call in number! So please give it a call. It’s lonely and unused. The number is…

206-888-4839

Thats 206-888-Huey

Huey is there to take your call and pass on the love… or the hate. Call us if you feel either way.

Tonight’s feature is a beauty, and of course a good friend of the Society from the first Season.. none other than the Red Panda. Fresh off of crime fighting his way to the top by winning the Parsec Award for Long Fiction Audio Drama. Well done Gregg Taylor and crew!

We’ve also got the first part of an interview I had with Rob Patterson of Kung Fu Action Theatre. It began as our regular Round Table but the evil minions kept bouncing poor Gregg off of Skype so we’ll have to catch up with him a little later. Rob and I talk about 2009 and the topic de jour- hiatus…

And speaking of hiatus. You may remember we left Jack and Shannon on the Jack and Shannon Show in a bit of a pickle. It was fully my intention to complete that story before starting the show. But… well, a little play came along called “Black Jack Justice” and Shannon and I are both part of a great cast including some of your Electric Vicuna favourites- like Schoel Strang, Eric Benson, Ira Henderson and of course Colleen MacIssac. As well as some newcomers- Ashley Mendes and Andrew Chandler that we’re going to have to have in upcoming audio shows.

Speaking of such things… and hiatus… well, part of our announcements are these.

EVP or Electric Vicuna Productions is on hiatus for six months. Why is that Shannon?

(CROSSTALK)

The upshot of it is folks is that I’m going to have to take it easy and get my health back. So, Sonic Gold Season 2 is on hold, Biff Straker, while mostly in the can is a little on hold as well, as well as many more of the great stories I’ve got cooked up. Time to try and relax and enjoy life!

Further on to the bad news… I’m afraid we just didn’t get more than twenty odd votes for the Unis Awards this year, and it just didn’t seem like it was a fair cross-section of what people were wanting, so last year’s Uni’s are a wash too.

On to some good news. Did you like the summer season? We loved it.. and we hope to have many more. So if you’re an Audio Drama producer who didn’t get into remaking a classic with you crew, give us a call at the Huey number or email us at sonicsociety AT gmail DOT com and let us know.

Heck just get a hold of us anywhere and let us know you missed us as much as we missed you. We’re available at TwitterFace too! I even built a new Fan Page for the Sonic Society on Facebook. It’s fun… you can LIKE us there!

So without further ado, let’s go to one of the things I like the most, that being of course The Red Panda with what could well have been the winning entry in the Parsecs “The Song of the Siren” right here, on the Sonic Society… Season 6!

4. Feature Presentation- Decoder Ring Theatre- The Red Panda- “The Song of the Siren” (AD-G RATED)

Written and Produced by Gregg Taylor

And now, part 1 of the Round Table with Jack Ward and Rob Patterson.

5. Round Table Part 1- With Rob Patterson and Jack
Produced by Jack Ward

6. Sonic Society End with Jack and Shannon
(Ending Chat)

7. Sonic Society 6 Theme Credits

Looking at stage productions in Sonic Summerstock Playhouse it’s hard not to reminisce about our first audio drama stage play.

Some time ago (way back in 2004) we attempted our first and only live show. It was mostly a sound quality nightmare. The venue, although a wonderful restaurant, was lousy for sound with waiters and orders and poor visibility to the stage and even our live feed to CKDU was plagued with a horrendous buzz and attenuation that killed the fantastic vigour from our actors.

So after our show, I asked the company to show up in CKDU to record “Live in Studio” the Hill Manors Show for posterity and clarity’s sake.

I love Fawlty Towers, so when I thought about writing a tribute show set in Nova Scotia, this is what I came up with. Apologies to John Cleese and Connie Booth. No Architeuthidae were hurt in this performance.
